The racing season as we know it is just getting under way. Many VCL riders will be found every Tuesday at Crystal Palace and every Wednesday at Herne Hill – our local weekly racing leagues, as well as a variety of weekend racing.
Many senior riders have been dipping their toes into a wide variety of early season racing. Jason and James got comfortable midfield finishes in one of the first Surrey League races of the year at Dunsfold.
A few weeks later James, Iain and Jules signed up for the Hilly Bletchingly course, James was too ill to race, Iain punctured early into the race, but Jules did us proud lasting in a breakaway for 8th place.
Andy Snowball, Marek and Phil Glowinski and Toby Blackman all dabbled in the Surrey League too.
Meanwhile, in the world of time trialing, new recruit James Harness scored a very respectable 22:30 in a BUCS TT (Oxford Universtity CC).
Back to our spiritual home on the track and many VCL riders raced in the first Open Season, and Spring Omnium events of the year at Herne Hill. There were plenty of good individual results, but the highlight has to be Iain winning the first of the Spring Omniums.
While many of us soaked up the sun at Herne Hill at the crowd pleasing Good Friday Open Day, Toby took on the challenge and headed up to Manchester for the relocated traditional Good Friday meeting. Considering a genuinely world class field Toby did us proud, only just missing out on qualifying for the Golden Wheel scratch, and getting good results in his other races.
