The club has been awarded Go-Ride status by British Cycling in recognition of its efforts to get young people into the sport and there are a number of qualified coaches among VCL members.
In July 2005, VCL entered a new and exciting era as it took over the day to day running of Herne Hill velodrome on behalf on British Cycling.
Â
We endeavor to support young riders to achieve their very best in the sport. To achieve this, club coaches are heavily involved in coaching sessions at Herne Hill velodrome, & support a number of other things such as racing trips nationally & to Belgium under the guidance of Bryan Taylor. Although the club has no sponsor, VCL members try to ensure that our young riders are on a level playing field at major events by providing equipment loans where-ever possible (e.g. specialist wheelsets).
Â
In 2006 we ran a young female squad, to provide a friendly environment for young riders to compete at the highest level. The squad proved extremely successful taking major individual placings in National events and competing on a par with more established senior women's teams. We are delighted that one of the riders, Jo Rowsell, has since become World Champion in the Team Pursuit.
