VCL is proud to be sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
Who is Jack Petchey?
Jack Petchey is one of the UK’s most successful businessmen. Born in East London in July 1925, Jack came from a working class background with very few advantages. From an early age he showed the entrepreneurial skills that have aided his success. The Jack Petchey Foundation was established to enable young people, to achieve their potential by inspiring, investing in, developing and promoting activities that increase their personal, social, emotional and physical development.
So you can see how VCL is a perfect partner for the foundation as we share the same mission! We take part in two schemes run by them. The first being the Young Achievers Award Scheme where annually six members between the ages of 11 and 25 are voted for by everyone, members of VCL, parents and coaches. They can only receive the award once.
These ‘Young Achievers’ will have shown qualities demonstrating high aspirations, determination, self sufficiency, positivity and community spirit. For each achiever elected VCL will receive a £200 grant to be spent in a way that benefits these 11 to 25 year olds. We will keep a wish list of suggested ways to spend the grant for the award winners to choose from.
If you are between 11 and 25 we welcome your ideas to be added to this list please contact Thaisa Hopkins our Jack Petchey Coordinator by message on Facebook or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The second is the Leader Award Scheme where again we elect one of our club coaches or leaders to be recognised for their involvement with our youth programs.
They can then apply for a grant for up to £500 to be spent on something which again benefits the 11 to 25 year olds at our club.
Following is a list of VCL members who have won the award in the past:
Our equipment collection has grown over the past few years thanks to this scheme with items including bars, wheels, helmets and a VCL gazebo. Please visit the Jack Petchey website at www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk for more information about the foundation
