A regular kick start to our winter rides, VCL had a slightly smaller showing at the Ride of the Falling Leaves this yeah, party due to a cyclo-cross happening at the same time at Herne Hill. Oliver Cliff writes:
On 7th October at 9:00am a group of VCL riders set off to do either the 110 kilometres or the 80 kilometres ride (both rides seemed to be hard). Boru Pratt McCullagh, who did the 110 kilometres, was supposed to join the VCL group but betrayed us for Dulwich Paragon!! Throughout both rides we came across many climbs such as Toys Hill and Woldingham all of which my dad and Caveman got dropped!!
Early on in the ride Caveman got a record breaking 6th puncture in 2 weeks and we had to wait 7 minutes for him to change his inner tube buy new tyres !
In the 110 kilometre ride there was more tragedy as my dad managed to get out of doing the full distance due to mechanical problems with his bike jim wont fix it ! (only joking dad). The Ride was fun and enjoyable for all riders who participated especially Hisham, myself, Jack and Keiran who raced up all the hills for the King of the Mountains classification!! Luckily for us the weather was on our side (unlike the at the Cake Quest when Jason, Jack, Caveman and I got wet through and were like drowned rats) and the ride was enjoyable for both groups and all the riders who participated. Well done to all the riders who finished but unfortunately that doesn’t include you dad (but better luck next year) and well done to Caveman, Hisham, Jack, Phil, Steve, Kieran, Boru the traitor and myself for completing the ride. Also well done to any riders that I have missed out.
