VCL vs Mt Trevereux: The Christmas Hill Climb 2015

Oh those merciless waves of Haiwai’s North Shore! The mighty rice terraces of Banaue! Trying to walk in a straight line when it’s really, really windy! Man vs Nature! La Bataille Éternelle! And so it continued yesterday, when two mighty forces collided on a moist morning just outside Limpsfield: VCL vs Mt Trevereux. And what a battle it proved…

The VCL youngsters got the early blows in, hammering away at the mud-stricken lower slopes of Trevereux. Oscar, Finley and Hayden coming out on top, with 2m58s, 2m59s and 3m19s respectively.

Trevereux wasn’t going down without a fight though, and the VCL middle order took some serious punishment. Recent Hillingdon Champ Emma-Jane could do little more than grimace and wail, “Help! Phil! PHIL!” as the hill’s steepest sections took hold.

But again came VCL, piling in with a succession of indefensible blows…a national champion here, a 6-day rider there! Whammy! Kapow! Zlonk!

Trevereux was on the ropes, knees weak, as Ethan Hayter – barely out of breath – stood tall at her crest and, with a time of 2m20s, declared the mountain defeated!

Off to Beaver Water World rode the mighty VCL, for tea, beaver and tales of victory!
Hey Nature, better luck next year!
